What attracted me to the program are the techniques to help our front-line supervisors and managers understand what lies behind a lot of things that happen, and engaging the mind about what safe really means to us. For me, this adds an additional dimension which can be used to build upon other trainings such as IOSH Managing or Working Safely or NEBOSH Certificate programs. As a bonus, the principles you explore, although focused around safety for the achievement of the certificate, apply to broader leadership areas.

So far we’ve put our senior leadership team from one of our mills through Behavioural Science and we have started our phase 2 rollout across our Shift Manager and Team Leaders within two of our mills in Europe. The opportunity is to also explore with our North American operations the impact of this training, once we start to see the impact from it.

Pink quote mark

I met some fantastic, inspirational people on the Train the Trainer. What brought us together was our desire to deliver change, make it impactful, and create curiosity. Those common goals allowed us to speak freely and openly in a supportive environment and not seek solutions but ideas to consider how they would fit in our businesses.

If you’re considering Train the Trainer have an idea of what you want to do with the outcome and get buy in and commitment. I spoke to the general managers and senior leadership to say I’m starting this program and when it’s done I’m going to want to do something with it; by summer 2025, we will have taken a number of our key leaders through the training.

There is a time commitment for sure, but the reward is huge.
